Adam Beaumont-Brown has revolutionised the swimwear market with his original tailored swim shorts and completely transformed poolside style with his Menswear Brand, Orlebar Brown. Featured here as a FLOWERBMB, this understated designer and entrepreneur welcomes us into his elegant Notting Hill home and shares with us the importance that flowers play in his life.

Beaumont-Brown is an enduring floral muse for FLOWERBX and inspires with his studied simplicity and fearlessness with flowers. While his menswear is classic, he accents his monochromatic home with bold pops of colour favouring large flowers such as hydrangea and viburnum. Never, ever a wall-flower, Adam Beaumont-Brown represents an enduring style and floral icon.

What are your favourite flowers and why? White or colour? And what colour?

All time favourites are pale blue hydrangea. In addition, all colours of peonies mixed together are another favourite.

Do these flowers have significance in your life? Signify a moment from your past? A favourite of your mother’s? Or given to you by a partner?

We went to Cornwall every summer when I was a child and I remember long high hedges of hydrangea growing wild around the cottages – burnt almost white in the summer by the sun and the wind. My grandmother always seemed to have yellow and pale pink peonies in her house – they have a lovely fifties feel to them.

What are your favourite vase styles/shapes?

Huge sparkling clean glass vases – very informal – I am obsessed with changing the water every day to keep the vase spotless.

What are your tips for arranging flowers for a dinner party? Or for your house for any occasion?

Keep it simple at all times and keep it low? Even one peony stem in a little vintage french water glass can make a table.

How does your flower choice reflect your personal style? And your interior style?

Our house is quite masculine with dark and natural colours and furnishings so my choice of ‘granny chic’ peonies and hydrangea doesn’t really reflect that! My personal style is very much what we do at Orlebar Brown, tailored and relaxed with lots of colour – quite like my flowers favourites.

What are the most beautiful or significant flowers that you’ve ever been given?

When my grandmother Penelope - who brought me up - died age 94 my partner sent me a huge bunch of the most beautiful long stemmed white roses – it was very touching and she seemed to live on on the Roses.

What is your most powerful memory involving flowers and scent?

I remember being very young and visiting a farm in southern France and being amazed at the beauty and the scent of the lavender fields where we were staying. If I ever smell lavender I am immediately transported back to that hot summer in France.

How does having flowers in your home change the atmosphere? How does being surrounded by flowers make you feel?

Flowers are as important as art and furniture and bring a home to life. They have an energy that is calming and of course the fragrance brings the home alive. Life would be very sad without flowers.

What flowers do you most like to give and why?

Hydrangea are always impressive and make a bold statement. Luckily the hydrangea season is one of the longest flower seasons.

What flowers would you most like to be given and why?

In my dreams I would receive huge bucketfuls of all the pinks to orange and red peonies and fill the house with them.
