A long-standing figure in the fashion industry, Julie de Libran’s illustrious career working at power fashion brands such as Versace, Prada and Louis Vuitton have paved the way for her most recent and suitable fit as Artistic Director at Sonia Rykiel in 2014 where she is re-inventing the Paris fashion house’s collections with a rebellious and confident spirit. We went to visit her incredible home tucked away in an idyllic courtyard in the fashionable St. Germain quarter to find out the flowers that define her very chic and very Parisian taste.

White or coloured flowers?

White.

Tell us about the first flowers you ever received and how they made you feel?

Once, my whole bedroom was covered everywhere with red long-stem roses. It was overwhelming and amazing but I hate red roses! Otherwise, I love receiving white flowers.

Is there a significant flower that has played an important role in any of life’s milestone moments?

The Rykiel rose, created for Sonia Rykiel.

What do you love most about flowers?

Their incredible beauty in terms of form, their centre, volume and colour but most of all their scent.

What is your most powerful memory involving flowers and scent?

My friend Daniela Andrier who is a nose made me a personal perfume with iris, vetiver, fleurs d’oranger and rose.

Wild flowers, in particular a Champêtre bouquet with lots of mint.

Which flowers do you most like to receive?

White peonies because of their beauty and wonderful scent.

How does your flower choice reflect your personal style?

My personal style is simple, pure, white and fresh.

What’s your favourite flower season?

Spring.

What’s in your dream wedding bouquet?

White garden roses (rose acienne) with hanging ivy.

Who would you invite to your own dream dinner party?

Friends and family.

Is there an area in your home where you always have flowers?

The guest room.

Pure, tall, coloured glass, brass or small individual white porcelain vases.

Describe your interior style?

Mixing periods, 50s, antiques, flea market pieces, collection pieces, contemporary art, photography, art books, lots of libraries and closets.

Who inspires you in either art, design, fashion or music?

Anish Kapoor, Charlotte Perriand, Sejima, Azzedine Alaïa, Rei Kawakubo, Miuccia Prada, JOHNNYSWIM, David Bowie, Grace Jones and Debbie Harry.

Do you have a favourite piece of art? If so, what?

Laurent Grasso’s wall pieces made in copper and Kate MccGwire’s Blue Features sculpture.
