Humidity

The Peace Lily loves humidity. If your bathroom gets lots of light, place your plant in there, or mist every few days to keep it happy.

Light Conditions

The Peace Lily is easy when it comes to light, managing well in most conditions, although it will be happier in a bright spot.

Watering

The Peace Lily is pretty resilient and will usually bounce back from a missed watering. Water when the top inch of soil feels dry.

Boston Fern

As well as being a popular indoor houseplant, the nephrolepis exaltata 'Green lady', better known as Boston Fern or ‘Sword Fern’, cleans the air of pollutants, whilst being super-easy to care for. With its stiff, upright fronds and evergreen colouring, this fern plant is guaranteed to bring a luscious feel to its surroundings.

How to care for your plant

Humidity

The Boston Fern really loves humidity. Mist a couple of times a week or, even better, keep your plant in the bathroom, allowing it to happily bask in steam.

Light Conditions

Like a lot of ferns, the Boston Fern is happiest in partial shade, so a room with dim light is ideal for this houseplant.

Watering

The Boston Fern likes moist soil, so check weekly and water whenever the top inch of soil is dry. Let any excess water drain off.

Fiddle-Leaf Fig

The fiddle leaf ficus (more commonly known as the fiddle leaf fig plant) is distinguished by large violin-shaped leaves with a waxy finish, that grow in an upright direction. Native to the tropics where they thrive in warm and wet conditions, these tough plants can fortunately withstand less-than-perfect conditions such as an indoor home or office environment.

How to care for your plant

Humidity

Native to the tropics, the Fiddle Leaf Fig prefers high humidity and enjoys a regular misting. Be sure to give its leaves a gentle wipe with a damp cloth to remove any dust.

Light Conditions

The Fiddle Leaf Fig is easy-going in terms of light and will tolerate most light conditions as long as the sun isn’t too harsh. It will thrive with bright, indirect sunlight.

Watering

Water when the top soil becomes slightly dry and reduce watering in the winter. Try not to overwater as this may cause root rot.

Humidity

The Aloe Vera Plant is not fussy when it comes to humidity and will tolerate dry air well.

Light Conditions

Aloe Vera prefers bright, indirect sunlight and doesn’t like to be in the shade.

Watering

Being used to desert environments, the Aloe Vera Plant doesn’t require frequent watering. Allow the top third of the soil to dry out before watering, and never let it stand in water as this may cause leaves to turn yellow.

Tortoiseshell Calathea Medallion

The Tortoiseshell Calathea Medallion is also commonly known as the ‘Cathedral’, ‘Peacock’ or ‘Zebra’ plant due to the beautiful brush-effect pattern on its leaves, as well as its tropical origins. Both pet-friendly and adaptable to medium light, this indoor calathea plant is a great all-rounder for the house.

How to care for your plant

Humidity

High humidity conditions are a must for the Tortoiseshell Calathea. Try standing the plant on a wet pebble tray or misting daily to keep it happy.

Light Conditions

Whilst the Calathea can tolerate some shade, it prefers plenty of bright, indirect sunlight. Too much direct sunlight may fade some of the distinctive markings on its leaves over time.

Watering

The Calathea is a little difficult when it comes to watering. It likes to be kept in damp soil, but does not favour wet conditions for a long time. We find little and often is the best policy.

Humidity

The Ivy Plant is easy-going when it comes to humidity and will do well in most conditions. In the summer, an occasional misting will help it thrive.

Light Conditions

The Ivy Plantprefers bright light conditions but can burn if left in harsh, direct sun for too long.

Watering

The Ivy Plant prefers damp but not waterlogged conditions, so water little and often and don’t let the soil dry out too much. Water at soil level to avoid getting the leaves wet.

Blue Wave Fern

The blue-green colouring of this fern plant is why it is often referred to as the phlebodium aureum or Blue Wave fern. Because of its adaptability to varying tropical climates, it makes a great, easy-to-care-for indoor houseplant with no leaf fall and a beautiful non-conformist appearance.

Humidity

Like many ferns, the Blue Wave Fern prefers humid conditions so be sure to mist regularly or leave in the bathroom for intervals for a steam.

Light Conditions

Partial light is preferable for the Blue Fern, although it will tolerate some bright indirect sunlight. Keep out of direct sun as this can burn its leaves.

Watering

The Blue Wave Fern likes to have damp soil at all times, so don’t let the soil dry out completely. Little and often seems to do the trick. Water at soil level to avoid getting leaves wet.

Paradise Strelitzia

Also known as the ‘Bird of Paradise plant’ or strelitzia nicolai, this exotic indoor plant is native to South Africa and named for its orange crane-like flowers, similar to the Bird of Paradise flower. Showcasing tall, upright stems with large paddle-shaped leaves, it can happily grow up to two meters long in the same pot with little maintenance required.

How to care for your plant

Humidity

The Paradise Strelitzia prefers more humid conditions but will tolerate drier air. Mist regularly in the winter to combat the impact of central heating.

Light Conditions

The Paradise Strelitzia will thrive in bright, indirect sunlight. Be careful not to place in direct sunlight as this can burn its leaves and damage its beautiful flowers.

Watering

Water when the soil at the top of the pot becomes dry. Make sure your plant is not standing in any remaining water at the bottom of the pot.
