ROSE

STYLING

Romantic, ruffled, and oh-so-classic, the rose is a quintessential symbol for floral femininity worldwide. We think that every stem deserves its moment in the spotlight, which is why we want to show you exactly how to style and care for your cut roses, so that they look their beautiful best and last even longer.

STEP 01

Unwrap your roses and get started with a sparkling clean vase - our Apothecary vase or Mayfair vase will work perfectly, depending on your chosen number of stems - then add cold water and your sachet of FLOWERBX flower food.

STEP 02

Now, it is time to think about your arrangement. As a rule, we recommend one-third vase to two-thirds flowers to really showcase your roses as they bloom.

STEP 03

Maximum water absorbtion is key! Be sure to cut each stem at a 45 degree angle to help your roses blossom for as long as possible.

STEP 04

Notice some slightly green petals on the outer layer of your rose? These are their guard petals, and need to be removed before arranging. Simply peel them away to reveal the fresh ones behind.

STEP 05

Once your roses are looking just perfect, remove any foliage that will sit below the waterline by snipping away leaves and thorns with your Floral Scissors.

STEP 06

Now, you are ready to add your roses to your vase. Keep your stems tall for maximum impact, and create a dome-like shape for the perfect 360 degree arrangement that looks beautiful from every angle. Step away and tweak as necessary until you are happy with your final look, and be sure to read our care tips below to help your blooms last as long as possible.

HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR ROSES:
TIPS FROM OUR HEAD FLORIST

Want the inside know-how to keep your roses looking picture-perfect? We spoke to our Head Florist as she shares her top tips...

Firstly, everyone wants to get the most out of their roses. How long should we expect them to last?

Of course! Typically, roses should last up to one week if properly looked after. There are plenty of ways to maintain your roses that will keep them looking fresh for that bit longer, which I will share a little later on...

How do you achieve that perfect Instagram-worthy dome shape?

This is something that I get asked a LOT! To achieve dome perfection, it is essential to follow the spiral technique when arranging. That way, the roses should fall naturally into an equal, 360-degree dome, whatever angle you are looking at them from. You can make any adjustments by gently pushing up or pulling down individual stems once they are in your vase.

How do you prolong the life of your roses?

When it comes to making sure that your roses last as long as possible, there are a few vital ways of keeping them alive for longer. Changing the water regularly is a must - you will be surprised how much longer they survive with fresh water everyday! Another top tip is to always cut your stems at a 45 degree angle, as this increases the stem’s surface area, allowing your rose to absorb more water. And always remember to remove foliage below the water line to make sure your rose head is getting all the hydration it needs.

Which rose varieties are the most popular?

Here at FLOWERBX, we have a favourite rose for each day of the week! But when we look at what our customers are buying, the most popular varieties always tend to be our Avalanche roses in a single colour, for example our Sweet Pink Avalanche. In our experience, grouping rose bunches in single varieties is always the most chic way to arrange.

Where is the best place to keep my roses?

Your roses will truly thrive when placed in a cool area of your home. Avoid leaving them in direct sunlight or in rooms that get on the warmer side to ensure that they stay looking their best for longer.

When is the best occasion to send roses?

When is the best occasion to send roses? When someone says ‘roses’, we typically think of Valentine's Day, but they are so versatile and can be sent on so many more occasions. The trick is all in choosing the right variety. Our Naomi Red roses epitomise romance, yet our Yellow Penny Lane rose would work as the perfect pick-me-up for a friend. Roses are far more dynamic that people often think, which is why our Rose Subscription service is a great way to explore different styles.

How short should I cut my roses?

This depends a lot on how you would like your finished arrangement to look, but as a rule of thumb, the length of your rose stems should be no more than one and a half to two times the height of your vase. This will keep your arrangement looking full and elegant, yet not too top heavy.

Any final tips?

Yes! As well as daily room-temperature water, always feed your flowers. Flower food keeps your roses looking fresh and blooming for longer, which is why we always include a sachet with your bouquet!
